Michelle Bennett Oates was born in London, and moved to Nofolk at the age of 18 where she studied art and trained under her father, Bennett Oates, the renowned flower painter.
In her early career Michelle painted wildlife and animal subjects, exhibiting regularly in London. in 1983 she was elected a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists and exhibited annually at their show at the Mall galleries, London.
