Alan Thompson was born in Cumbria in 1953. He gained a First Class Honours degree from Leicester Polytechnic in 1976, and was awarded a post-graduate scholarship to the Slade, University College London, where he studied under Uglow, Freud, Coldstream and others. In 1979, Alan Thompson was invited to spend a year painting in southern Spain and has painted professionally since that time, exhibiting widely in the United Kingdom and Spain. Alan Thompson is well known for his lovely paintings of the Cumbrian countryside, but in recent years has concentrated on the landscape and townscapes of Italy, France and Spain.
