George Hillyard Swinstead
Swinstead was born in 1860 and studied art at the Royal Academy School in 1881, holding his first exhibition there a year later. Swinstead became a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water-colours, and the Painter Stainer's Company. Initially principally an artist in portraits and genre, in later life he increasingly painted landscapes and coastal environments.
He came from a family of noted artists, including his father Charles Swinstead and two brothers Alfred and Frank Hillyard Swinstead. He died 16th January 1926.
